Our Head of School

Brett Potash is an experienced educator and administrator, currently serving as the Assistant Head of School and Dean of Character at LEAF Academy in Bratislava, Slovakia. He holds a Master of Arts in History and Sociology of Science from the University of Pennsylvania and a Bachelor of Arts with Honors in Psychology, Anthropology, and Religious Studies from Franklin & Marshall College.

Potash has an extensive background in teaching at various institutions. At LEAF Academy, he teaches AP Seminar, Character Seminar, and English/Humanities. His previous roles include teaching Psychology, Postmodern Literature, and World History at Mercersburg Academy, as well as AP European History and World History at The Webb Schools. His career also includes teaching positions at The American College of Sofia in Bulgaria and Olney Friends School.

In addition to his teaching, Potash has significant administrative experience, having served as the Director of Dormitories at Mercersburg Academy and Dean of Students at The Webb Schools. He has presented at numerous educational conferences on topics such as mindfulness, student well-being, and ethical leadership. His work has been published in Independent School Magazine and the International Schools Journal 

A dedicated outdoorsman, Potash’s formative experiences include extensive trekking in the Himalayas, Patagonia, and Kilimanjaro, among other locations, as well as completing the 2,000-mile hike of the Appalachian Trail. He holds certifications as a Mindfulness in Schools teacher and has a Wilderness First Aid Certification from the National Outdoor Leadership School (NOLS).
