Transformative Learning

Beyond Core Subjects

Witnessing our child thrive in this middle school has been transformative. Here, education transcends textbooks; it’s about nurturing the whole child. Our dedicated teachers understand that adolescence is a journey, not just an academic phase. They expertly guide students through social and emotional growth, alongside rigorous academics.

The daily practice of yoga and meditation provides a powerful foundation, equipping our child with the tools for self-regulation and resilience. Learning becomes a process of self-discovery, where strengths are celebrated, and goals are collaboratively set. The emphasis on reflection and iterative work fosters critical thinking and self-awareness.

Beyond core subjects, enriching electives like seed-to-table and computer programming ignite passions. The unique CCLS course weaves connections between disciplines, fostering a deep understanding of themselves and the world. This holistic approach cultivates not just successful students, but confident, compassionate individuals prepared to embrace life’s challenges.

Core Subjects

Core Curriculum

The Middle School years are a critical time of transition, and our curriculum is specifically designed to support students as they navigate this period of academic and personal development. While academic subjects become more distinct, our emphasis on “Connections” remains central, with teachers guiding students to see the universal principles that link science, mathematics, history, and literature.

These connections come alive for students through interdisciplinary, hands-on projects such as our Seed to Table program, which is fully integrated into Middle School CCLS, along with the same social-emotional learning program (CASEL) and health and relationships curriculum (3R’s) that is incorporated at all grade levels. The daily practice of Transcendental Meditation provides a stable anchor, helping students manage the challenges of early adolescence and maintain inner balance.

A primary focus in Middle School is on developing sophisticated social skills. Guided by the principles of Restorative Practices, the curriculum emphasizes effective communication and conflict resolution. This focus directly supports the development of social awareness and relationship skills, empowering students to build healthy peer relationships and resolve disagreements constructively.

Our middle schooler has blossomed at Maharishi. The small class sizes and dedicated teachers have nurtured their academic curiosity, while the supportive community has fostered a sense of belonging. We’ve seen a real growth in their confidence and a genuine love of learning
