COMMUNITY SERVICE AT MAHARISHI

It has been said that to find your purpose in life you must combine your passion with your profession, i.e. linking what you love with what will earn an income. Your vocation becomes your mission. 

At Maharishi School we help our students identify their passions and possible professions, and explore those in our Community Service Program. Students discover their value to our society, their ability to give as well as receive.  It helps them respect the efforts others have made for them, and to take responsibility for their growing role as full-fledged members of a local–and global–community.

SERVICE is a core value of Maharishi School and an expectation since its inception. Maharishi School students in Upper School are required to complete at least ten hours of community service each year–although the majority of our students engage in many more.  US universities expect applicants to have contributed some kind of community service, so we include our students’ cumulative number of hours on their transcript.

Students work through service organizations such as Interact (the youth auxiliary of Rotary International) or volunteer at the public library, the Lord’s Cupboard food pantry, or Magnolia Sanctuary soup kitchen or they participate in projects such as planting trees around town or providing companionship for the elderly. Some students even serve on boards for service organizations such as the Sierra Club, gaining skills in leadership along with lifelong mentors and role models.
