An ELL teacher working with a student

ELL Program

English language support built for boarding students

Top colleges actively seek out our graduates. Here's how we get them ready.

Our English Language Learner (ELL) program is designed to support international students as they transition into our academic environment — building strong language skills, cultural competence, and the confidence to excel, not just enough English to get by.

The program meets a wide range of student needs, from vocabulary development to comprehending complex texts to preparing a paper for a science competition — teachers provide ongoing evaluation of each student's strengths and weaknesses in English.

Levels of Support

Pull-out classes taught by ELL teachers, for students whose level indicates a need for one-on-one or very small-group support, for no more than three periods a day (generally English and social studies). Beyond that, ELL specialists work closely and continually with content-area teachers, adapting content and assessments as needed and advocating for each student's success.
