Maharishi School is committed to making our website usable by everyone, including visitors using screen readers, keyboard-only navigation, voice control, or other assistive technology. This page describes what we’ve done, what we’re targeting, and how to reach us if something isn’t working for you.
Standard we’re targeting
We build to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA. That’s the standard most schools and public-facing organizations target, and the one referenced in most accessibility-related regulations.
What’s in place today
- Real, written image descriptions (alt text) on photos across the site, so screen readers can describe what’s actually shown — not left blank or auto-generated.
- Every interactive element — links, buttons, form fields, menus — is reachable and usable by keyboard alone, with a visible focus outline so you can always see where you are.
- A logical heading structure and real page landmarks (header, navigation, main content, footer) on every page, so assistive technology can jump directly to the part of the page you need.
- Decorative images (background photography, icons that repeat a nearby label) are marked so they’re skipped by screen readers instead of adding noise; meaningful images are described.
- Color choices checked for real contrast against the text and backgrounds they’re used with.
What we haven’t finished yet
Being direct about where we are: the accessibility work above has been built and checked page-by-page as the site was built, but we have not yet run a single, formal, automated audit (tools like axe or WAVE) or a full manual review against every WCAG 2.1 AA success criterion. That audit is planned. If you find something that doesn’t work correctly with assistive technology in the meantime, please tell us — real reports from real visitors are the most useful input we can get.

Third-party content
Some parts of our site link out to or embed services we don’t control directly — our tuition payment portal and admissions application system, for example. We choose established providers, but we can’t guarantee their accessibility compliance the way we can our own pages. If you hit a barrier on one of these, let us know and we’ll help you complete the process another way.
