Students during a Consciousness-Based Education class

Consciousness-Based Education

The idea behind everything we teach

Every great school has a standout method. Ours is Consciousness-Based Education.

Consciousness-Based Education (CBE) is a teaching philosophy: an experiential learning model that develops the whole student — intellectual, social, and personal growth, together. It nurtures each student's full potential and builds a confident, capable growth mindset for life.

In plain terms: we teach the learner, not just the lesson. Develop a student's own capacity to learn (their focus, their clarity, their self-awareness), and everything they study goes deeper and lasts longer.

The Idea

Most schools pour material into students. We do that too, rigorously. But we also develop the one thing that decides how much of it lands: the student's own mind. A calmer, clearer, more focused student learns more from the very same lesson. Develop the learner, and you raise the ceiling on everything they do.

Inner growth is the basis of outer achievement. We build both, on purpose.

What It Looks Like

  • Rigorous, hands-on learning. Real academics, taught experientially — students do and build, not just memorize.
  • A daily practice: Transcendental Meditation. Twice a day, students settle quietly, no screens, eyes closed, for a few minutes of Transcendental Meditation — a simple, research-backed technique that sharpens focus and steadies the mind.
  • Classes of about ten. Small enough that teaching meets each student exactly where they are.
  • The whole student. Academic rigor and real well-being, together — not one at the expense of the other.

See It in Action

The Result

Students who learn this way develop a real sense of wholeness and belonging, and the quiet confidence to walk into any hard situation and try. They retain more, think independently, and know themselves. That inner steadiness is what makes the academic results last, and it's a big part of why one in three of our graduates goes on to a top-50 university.¹

See it in a real class: Consciousness, Connections & Life Skills (CCLS) is where this philosophy becomes a weekly course — Transcendental Meditation as the “lab,” Life Principles and the five CASEL competencies as the curriculum.

Where It Comes From

Consciousness-Based Education has been the founding idea of this school since 1981. Our founder, Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, built it on what the best teachers have always known: develop the student, and the learning follows. We've refined it every year since.

200% of Life

Full academics. Full inner development. We call it 200% of life — and Consciousness-Based Education is how we make it real, every day, in every classroom.
