Sometimes, amidst the hustle and bustle of daily life, it’s wonderful to take a moment and truly appreciate the extraordinary place our school is. And lately, the evidence of just how amazing Maharishi School is has been piling up!

Do you have a few minutes for a dose of “good news”? Because the awards and accolades from our talented students and dedicated faculty, and staff continue to roll in. Let’s celebrate these incredible accomplishments together!

Leading the Way in STEM: We’ve known it all along, and now the word is out! Maharishi School has been ranked the #1 High School for STEM programs in Iowa by niche.com. This prestigious recognition is a testament to the hard work and innovative spirit within our science and technology departments.

Science Fair Triumph! In a historic achievement, Maharishi School brought home the Claison “Clay” Groff Memorial Traveling Trophy as the most successful high school at the State Science and Engineering Fair of Iowa (SSEFI)! Our students shone brightly, securing 1st place in five of the twelve categories. Special congratulations to Antariksha Sharma, who was named Grand Champion! Adding to this incredible success, three of our students earned an all-expenses-paid trip to the prestigious State Science & Technology Fair of Iowa (SSTFI)!

Reaching for the Stars (Literally!): Our students’ ingenuity knows no bounds! Our payload design for the NASA TechRise Student Challenge has been selected to launch in a high-altitude balloon (reaching a staggering 72,000 feet!) this June. Maharishi School is one of only 60 schools chosen out of over 700 entries nationwide – a truly remarkable feat!

Rocketry Rockets to Nationals! Our aspiring engineers have also excelled in the American Rocketry Challenge. Both of our teams have advanced to the National Finals, achieving qualifying flights within the top 100 out of 1001 entries! Congratulations to both teams for their dedication and skill.

Academic Excellence Recognized: The academic prowess of our students continues to impress. We are thrilled to announce that two of our talented juniors, Antariksha Sharma and Ken Luu, have qualified for the first stage of the highly competitive National Merit Scholarship program.

Building Bridges Through Sports: We deeply value community partnerships, and our collaboration with Fairfield Public Schools continues to provide enriching interscholastic sports opportunities for our students. This year, our students have enthusiastically joined girls’ volleyball and boys’ tennis, track, and soccer teams. We are also actively exploring even more ways to share programs and resources between both schools. A special shout-out to Ruimin Luo, who is currently undefeated as the #1 tennis player!

A Bit of School History on Wheels: It’s always good to remember our roots! This week, we said farewell (and a big thank you!) to our trusty 1993 school bus. For an incredible 32 years, it safely transported our sports teams and students on countless field trips. We’ve now upgraded by 19 years, welcoming a newer bus that still has its sparkle. Our sincere gratitude to Transportation Director Terry Weiss for his hard work in organizing the purchase and making a generous personal donation towards it.

President Nader’s Inspiring Visit: We were honored to welcome MIU President and global leader of the TM organization, Dr. Tony Nader, to Maharishi School last week. His visit was a meaningful experience for our students, as he spent time with our 1st graders and led a peaceful meditation session with the Upper School. We eagerly anticipate his return for a longer visit to address our entire student body and staff.

Field House Transformation: Exciting progress is underway at our Field House! Thanks to the generous contribution from an MIU alumni donor and the tireless efforts of Jorge Alvarez’s crew, significant renovations have been made, including a new roof and repairs to the ceiling and floor. While more work is planned, the main floor area is now ready for use again and feels fantastic!

A Playground Bloom for Our Youngest Learners: Our Preschool students are in for a treat! By mid-May, they will be exploring a brand-new playground set, made possible by a very generous donation from the Jesse and Natasha Berkowitz family. We know this wonderful addition will bring countless hours of joy and active play.

Alumni Network: A Global Support System: Our Maharishi School alumni continue to make a positive impact around the world. We were recently reminded of the strength of this network when one of our 2023 graduates from Ukraine faced an unexpected challenge returning to Grinnell College from the UK. We are deeply grateful to another Maharishi School alumna who is providing crucial support during this time. This heartwarming example showcases the powerful connections that extend far beyond our campus. We are hopeful for a swift resolution and our alumna’s safe return to her studies.

With spring being a busy competition season, we know there will be even more incredible achievements to share with you in May. Stay tuned for more good news!
