The Learning…It Just Keeps Happening

Raise your hand if someone in your family has been sick lately…yep, that’s pretty much everyone. One day recently, one-third of our Lower School students were absent. I’ve been so amazed by our community’s resilience over the past few weeks, as students and teachers wage a never-ending battle with the bug that lingers…and lingers…and lingers. And I was especially impressed by the high-quality learning that just kept happening: our teachers are so committed and professional, bringing engaging learning experiences to our students, maintaining a sense of stability during the height of the winter doldrums. If you have a moment this weekend, please reach out to a teacher and thank them for their incredible work.

But the highlight was watching our very own Sonia Carminhato become a U.S. citizen! Here she is, pictured with Governor Kim Reynolds, after completing the naturalization ceremony. Sonia has been so essential to our operations over the years, and many of you know her as the face of the school, as she greets people at the Central Office in the morning. She also fills roles in HR and Facilities, helps out in the Kitchen when needed, and coordinates Housekeeping. She is essentially the Queen Bee of Maharishi School, and we’re so happy for her!

Middle School Adventures

Meanwhile, our Middle School students enjoyed several learning adventures this past week, traveling to the Science Center of Iowa on Wednesday, after a highly successful Deepening Day on Monday. The Meditation Hall was reinvigorated with tapestries and scents for a peaceful day, including art projects with Mr. Hunt and a presentation by MIU Athletic Director Ruben Sanchez on the connection between consciousness and sports. And the Science Center was a great reward for those students who spent so much time on their impressive double helix models.

Science Fair

Our Science Fair Project has a record number of participants this year, as 36 total students in Middle and Upper School have been working hard on their experiments. The competitions start soon, so stay tuned as these hypotheses turn into results and presentations.
